if i make a list the night before a day off or a day where i don’t work until the afternoon there’s like an 89% chance that I’ll have a pretty swell day. if i’m able to check things off the list while listening to good music the whole time, i’m in a generally less pissy, happy mood. If i don’t make a list or have goals for my day, i’ll have a crap day...

What do I want???  That thought just struck me. This whole past year has been a year of me probing friends, family, God, strangers I meet at work, coworkers, and pretty much anyone who can talk for an answer to the question of what’s the best “next step” for me to take in my life. Stay in my hometown for a couple more years and finish school? Move to Chicago and finish school?...

I have approximately a lot of cities that I’m tracking on Songkick because of my trip, so I added Milan today… And Atoms for Peace is playing there on July 17. Just so happens I might be in the neighborhood from the 15-18…. I just asked my sister if she’d be down… That would be AWESOME.

One month from today I’m leaving for Spain. Two months from today I’ll be leaving Spain to go to Italy for a couple days…then to Barcelona and Amsterdam. WWWHEWWWY (P.S. Looks like I probably won’t be able to go to London unless I go there by myself… which I’m not exactly anxious to do… traveling by myself doesn’t really seem all that wonderful to...

Some time ago I gave my mom a One Direction CD I bought at Goodwill and put it on her computer for her. She’s a little bit technically challenged and doesn’t have any other music in her itunes library. So she listens to One Direction a lot.

Trouble will find me is really excellent. putting this under a read more in case you’re waiting to listen to it until it comes out- [[MORE]]It seems more mellowed out/not as intense as some of their other albums. Matt doesn’t scream in any songs. Seems like a surrendering/I give up/I’m drained kinda album. Or maybe that’s just my personal projection, hahah.

James Blake show was pretty great. His voice is magic. The bass was hardly thumping enough for Limit To Your Love. I ended up going to the DJ set bc it was $5 instead of $16. The music was just fine, but dang I really hated the vibe. Super uppity, and I get the feeling a lot of people were there for the party, not because they actually like JB. And hardly anyone was dancing… c’mon...

Everyone needs to see “Two Pages” by Philip Glass performed at one point. It’s hilarious, repetitive, awful, and awesome all at once.

James Blake is doing a DJ set after his show tomorrow and it’s $16 but I will not go. I will practice self control. Self discipline. Financially wise decisions. I will not buy a ticket I will not buy a ticket I will not buy a ticket. So help me God.

NICO MUHLY AND BRYCE DESSNER FEATURED IN ‘INDIE... →
[Bryce] Dessner composed Murder Ballades to premiere on the MCA program, a consideration of the nature of American violence. “This piece goes back to an old American tradition,” [eighth blackbird’s Tim] Munro says, referring to the murder ballad. “They’re quite grisly tales of death, deceit, rape, and murder in song.” Dessner took several pre-existing murder ballads, added a few of his own, and...

Pretty sure I’m officially going to take up chopping wood as a pastime/stress reliever. I got off work today and was bored and frivolously checking facebook for notifications that weren’t happening and tumblr for a feed that wasn’t moving. I needed to DO something so I ran some errands then I got home and chopped wood. I really like that I enjoy dressing up, music, nice...

NPR First Listen: David Lang, 'Death Speaks' feat.... →
fymybrightestdiamond: Beautiful song cycle featuring the lovely vocals of Shara Worden.  9 days til I see this performed. It really is very beautiful. I had no idea what it actually sounded like until listening to this recording. And let’s not forget… “To celebrate the official release of David Lang’s album death speaks, Lang, Dessner, Muhly, and Worden sign CDs after the...

Today in bullet list format because I want to remember how good it was: [[MORE]] •Worked 8:30-3:30. Had some really great customers (which is kind of unusual). A character named Justin who was quite jovial, a NOLS instructor named Steve, a nice lady named Jen, a guy who wore a size 16 shoe, and Pat, a local bar owner who I talked to for a solid 30 minutes. •Got off work, put on my jean jacket...

Sweeeet. I do hope this is similar in nature to the BQE? But probably not. If Sufjan’s making new music, it’s just gonna be even weirder than his latest release.
